About

About Mark Tamblyn-Watts

Mark Tamblyn-Watts is a singer/songwriter/musician based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. With heavy influences from 1970s pop, prog rock, hard rock, funk and even disco, he is able and willing to play in all these areas, moving from soft acoustic guitar to screaming leads and anywhere in between. He is also strong in singing harmonies and more recently lead vocals.

His early years in music involved playing in two bands based in British Columbia, Canada in the 1990s: Dirty Dick and the Trojan Test Pilots and Eclectasy. Both acts focused on original material, so Mark’s creative juices were allowed to flow, including writing lyrics and music and both acts played live whenever and wherever possible, so stage skills were honed during that time.

In the early 2000s, song ideas were starting to flow, old guitar lines were starting to become songs and the sparks that would become the “Bring Me True” album were starting to fly…

In the mid 2000s, a live collaboration with the Toronto based Pink Floyd tribute “Floyd Factor” at a friend’s event led to an on stage audition for a Neil Young tribute called “Powderfinger” which played shows until 2016 and the members went separate ways. As rhythm/lead guitar player and background/lead vocalist his musical skills would be enhanced during this time, playing and singing with some top notch players on a wide range of material and musical styles. He was also involved with another act that included 2 other members from Powderfinger, which was a full band version of a 3 piece female vocalist group called “Tall Grass”. The material was challenging and the shows were very well received, but Mark’s schedule turned him more towards working on the original music that was starting to take shape.

Through the late 2010s and the Covid years, Mark and old friend and sometimes bandmate Ian Nielsen hunkered down and recorded and produced the “Bring Me True” album, which was finally released in 2024 and became widely available in early 2025. The album features many session musicians, most good friends with Mark and some acquaintances. The drummers from Dirty Dick and the Trojan Test Pilots, Powderfinger and Tall Grass all appear on the album. It is a very 70s influenced collection of songs ranging from hard rock to blues to lilting ballad and has been very well received by all.

Currently Mark is working on promoting the album and new material  and is planning on putting together a live band in later 2025.

Stay tuned…

POWDERFINGER

Powderfinger was a 6 piece Neil Young tribute formed in 2008 in the Toronto, Canada area. During the next 8 years, they played many live shows at clubs, festivals and private events featuring songs from Neil’s extensive career including Buffalo Springfield, CSNY and of course his solo material up to the Mirrorball era.

DIRTY DICK and the TROJAN TEST PILOTS

Dirty Dick and the Trojan Test Pilots was a hard rock band with a punk edge formed literally in a garage in Abbotsford, BC, Canada in 1991. They started playing covers but quickly began to write and perform original material, crossing styles of late 70s hard rock bands with 80s hair bands and the early 90s grunge acts that were hugely popular at the time. Before disbanding in 1995, they recorded 2 indie cassettes titled “Slightly Used” (5 songs) and “Schizen” (7 songs) which were well received by their abundant group of fans in the Lower Mainland area.  They also recorded 3 later songs that would remain unreleased until they reunited  in 2013 after 18 years apart, and put all the material on a CD called “2nd Coming”. They reunited a second time in 2017 and have worked on new material ideas since.
